As the year winds down, it’s the perfect time to take stock of your health and your CPAP supplies. Whether you’re managing sleep apnea or supporting a loved one who does, staying on top of equipment and insurance deadlines can make a big difference in comfort, compliance, and cost.
Here’s your year-end CPAP checklist from the team at Respire Homecare Services to help you breathe easier into the new year.1. Check Your CPAP Mask and Filters
CPAP masks and filters don’t last forever. Over time, they can wear out, lose effectiveness, or even harbor bacteria. Common signs it’s time to replace them include:- Mask leaks or discomfort
- Skin irritation or pressure marks
- Visible wear like cracks or discoloration
- Reduced airflow or strange smells
General replacement guidelines:
- Mask cushions: every 1–2 months
- Full masks: every 3–6 months
- Disposable filters: every 2–4 weeks
- Reusable filters: every 3–6 months
2. Use Up Your FSA/HSA Dollars
If you have a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA), now’s the time to use those funds before they expire or roll over with restrictions.Eligible CPAP-related purchases include:
- Replacement masks and cushions
- Tubing and filters
- CPAP cleaning supplies
- Humidifier chambers
- Travel CPAP units
3. Plan Ahead for Deductible Resets
Most insurance deductibles are reset on January 1st. That means any out-of-pocket costs you’ve already met this year will start over. If you’ve met your deductible:- Order supplies now to minimize costs.
- Schedule appointments or sleep studies before the reset.
- Refill prescriptions or oxygen equipment while coverage is maximized
4. Reorder Before Holiday Shipping Delays
The holiday season can slow down shipping and supply chains. To avoid running out of essentials:- Reorder CPAP supplies early.
- Check your humidifier water chamber and tubing for wear.
- Stock up on travel accessories if you’ll be away from home
5. Let Respire Help You Finish the Year Strong
